About us
The loom shed
The Autumn Weaves is a small weaving business in Galashiels, in the Scottish Borders. We make wool throws, bed blankets and lambswool scarves in four colourways and sell them directly, by post, from this site.

What the business is
We are a weaving shed, not a shop with a counter. The work happens in one room with a power loom, a warping frame, a finishing bench and shelves of folded cloth waiting to be posted. Everything sold on this site was woven and finished there. We do not buy in finished goods from elsewhere and put our name on them, and we do not sell yarn, kits or cloth by the length.
The range is deliberately short: a herringbone throw, a twill throw, a bed blanket in three widths, a lambswool scarf, and the colour card that shows all four colourways. Keeping it short means we can hold most pieces in stock, describe each one exactly, and set prices that stay put.
Where we work from
Galashiels sits where the Gala Water meets the Tweed, in the middle of the Scottish Borders, a part of the country with a long history of turning local wool into cloth. Our yarn is spun in Scotland and comes to the shed on cones. The shed is a working space and is not open to callers, so there is no showroom to visit; everything is done by e-mail and post.

How an order runs
- You fill in the order sheet: the pieces, the colourway, the finish of the ends for a blanket, and where it is going.
- Within one working day we write back to confirm stock, the total including postage, and the dispatch date, with a secure link to pay.
- Once paid, in-stock pieces are folded into their cotton bag, wrapped and posted within three working days.
- You receive tracking details by e-mail on the day the parcel leaves the shed.
If a colourway is between weavings, our reply says so and gives the date the next length comes off the loom. You can then wait, choose another colourway, or let the order go; nothing has been charged.
Where our limits sit
We will answer any question about size, weight, yarn or finish before you buy, send a colour card so you can choose in daylight, and take back unused pieces within 30 days. We will tell you plainly if something is not suited to what you want it for.
We will not run tours of the shed or teach weaving; it is a small working space and there is no room for visitors at the loom. We will not weave clan patterns or other registered setts to order. We will not mix synthetic fibre into our cloth. And we will not sell upholstery fabric by the metre: our cloth is finished as throws, blankets and scarves only.
How to reach us
Write to [email protected], or use the message box on the order sheet. Mail is answered Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, and parcels leave Galashiels on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Postage costs are on the postage and delivery page and the return arrangements on returning an item.
